Big Evs Edges Asfoora to Win King George Stakes

Big Evs secured a thrilling victory in the King George Stakes at Goodwood, narrowly defeating Asfoora in a dramatic sprint finish. Trained by Mick Appleby and ridden by Tom Marquand, Big Evs took the lead from the start, with Asfoora initially trailing far behind.

Asfoora, the winner of the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, was pushed by jockey Oisin Murphy to close the gap rapidly on the outside. Despite the late surge, Big Evs held on to avenge his previous third-place finish at Ascot.

"He is a fantastic racehorse," Marquand told ITV about the 13-8 favourite. "He has too much speed. He has so much raw boot and trying to tame that feels like there is no point. You don't need to save an awful lot on a track like this for him."

Believing finished third, three-quarters of a length behind the leading pair. This victory marked Appleby's fourth win from six runners at this year's Glorious Goodwood.
